Description

ICT Teacher (Elementary School)

Reports to ICT Department HOD

Purpose

An ICT (Information and Communication Technology) teacher plays a vital role in preparing students for a technology-driven world by teaching essential digital skills and promoting responsible use of information and communication tools. To be effective, an ICT teacher must possess strong technical knowledge in areas such as computer hardware and software, programming languages, operating systems, networking, databases, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Equally important is the ability to teach digital literacy and 21st-century skills, including the use of productivity software, internet research, online collaboration, and safe, ethical technology use. ICT teachers must also have strong pedagogical skills, enabling them to apply student-centered teaching methods, differentiate instruction for varying skill levels, and integrate ICT into other subject areas to support cross-disciplinary learning. Understanding curriculum standards and aligning lessons with national or international ICT frameworks is crucial, as is the inclusion of computational thinking and digital citizenship in everyday teaching.

Another key area of awareness is cyber safety and digital responsibility. ICT teachers must guide students in navigating the internet safely, protecting their data, avoiding cyberbullying, and understanding the ethical implications of digital behavior. They must also commit to continuous professional development, as technology is constantly evolving. Staying up to date with new tools, trends, and certifications allows teachers to maintain relevance in the classroom. Furthermore, they must ensure that digital learning is accessible to all students, including those with diverse learning needs, and use assistive technologies when necessary to support inclusive education. Effective ICT teachers not only teach technical skills but also foster critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration through technology, helping students become capable and responsible digital citizens.
